Vengeance Is Sweet by Karenna Colcroft

January 11, 2016 Spotlight 0

200Omara is a demon of vengeance, created to destroy humans who have harmed the innocent and bring their souls to Hell. Known for bending the rules to the breaking point, Omara is placed on probation after one too many infractions. Confined to her apartment, visited only by her friend Ghast, Omara chafes under the punishment.
A battle between two factions of beings and entities, one wanting to kill millions of humans and the other wanting to protect humanity, decimates the vengeance department, and Omara is called back to work. Her first assignment: “venge” Alejandro Ruiz, accused by the soul of his late ex-wife of abusing her and their six-year-old daughter Keeley.
Something about the case strikes Omara wrong, and she chooses to try to prove Alex’s innocence. As she becomes part of Alex and Keeley’s lives, Omara also becomes more and more human. Then she learns that the accusations against Alex are part of a plot to destroy Keeley, who is far more than she seems. To protect the humans she has come to love, Omara will do anything–including sacrificing her own existence.

SORM Excerpt

Ghast walked over and stood beside us. At first I thought Keeley didn’t notice him. Then she said, “He’s like Jochiel.”
Ghast didn’t answer right away, the only sign of how much she’d rocked him with her statement. “Who’s Jochiel?” he asked.
“My friend.”
“How am I like him?” Ghast crouched to better hear her reply.
“You’re the same thing he is.” Obviously she had chosen to be vague to keep from giving away the truth about Jochiel. “You know what you are, and he’s the same thing. I’m glad. That means you keep Omara safe like Jochiel keeps me safe.”
Although she recognized Ghast as an angel, she apparently didn’t know what I was. Maybe she didn’t have enough experience with demons to recognize one. If so, that was a good thing. It meant the only other demons she’d encountered had been the ones who’d taken her from school.
Whatever the reason, I thanked the Creator that she hadn’t figured me out.
The female officer hurried to us. “We can go inside. We’ll have to stay in the children’s room, though. They’re still collecting evidence in the other room. A couple witnesses claim they saw a fight, even though none of the fighters seem to still be here.”
I looked at Ghast. He gave me an almost imperceptible head shake. Somehow he’d convinced the officers he had nothing to do with the events in the main room. I’d stick with that. The police probably wouldn’t have reacted very well to finding out the fight had been between an angel and a demon. Or between Jack Smith and whatever Tertarch might have decided to call himself. People sometimes wound up in jail for fighting in public. I preferred not to see that happen to Ghast.
“I’m cold,” Keeley complained.
“Come on, sweetheart.” The officer held out her hand.
Keeley pressed closer to me. I stood and picked her up, and followed the officer with Ghast right behind me.

A Matter of Time by Margaret Locke

January 8, 2016 Spotlight 0

AMatterofTime.FrontCoverGenre: Time-travel Romance

Love comes when least expected.

Nobody would blame widowed doctoral student Eliza James for giving up on Happily Ever After; at twenty-nine, she’s suffered more loss than most people do in a lifetime. But Eliza’s convinced her own hero is still out there, waiting for her, just like in the beloved romance novels she devours. Every girl deserves a Darcy, right?

Only Eliza doesn’t dream of a modern-day affair: she wants the whole Regency experience. When a magical manuscript thrusts her back two hundred years into the arms and life of one Deveric Mattersley, Duke of Claremont, however, Eliza soon realizes some fantasies aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, especially when her duke proves himself less than a Prince Charming.

Deveric Mattersley has no interest in women, much less marriage. Determined to atone for his sins after convincing himself he’s at fault for the death of his first wife, he decrees himself content to focus on running his family’s estates, and on raising his son–until the mysterious Mrs. James appears. Who is she? What does she want? And why does she make Dev’s blood run hot in a way no woman ever has?

Can a man with a past and a woman from the future forge a love for all time?

SORM Excerpt

“Oh, come on. Play along. What’s your type, Deveric?”

Hearing his Christian name on her lips was delicious, though in truth they oughtn’t be so familiar with each other. She wasn’t family. He didn’t know what she was. Beyond … his type.

His eyes trailed over her figure. How could she look so delicious in that silly morning gown? Amara had surely been only too willing to rid herself of the dress; it was the one his mother insisted his sister wear often after her scandal. Covered from head-to-toe, as if clothing itself could keep one from temptation.

This American tempted him, whoever she was and whatever she was wearing. The fabric of the dress stretched tightly over her breasts, emphasizing them in a way he could hardly complain about.

He ran his fingers through his hair. “A gentleman of good breeding doesn’t think in such ways.”

“Oh, baloney,” Eliza said. “You can’t tell me that out of that gaggle of girls over there, not one of them interests you more than the others? Come on, I see a couple of blondes, a brunette, a redhead …”

Why was she pushing him on this? Was that a gleam in her eye? Was she deliberately provoking him?

The only woman here who interests me is you, he wanted to shout. You, with your strange ways and odd manner, with your lips that make me long to taste them again. You, with that delicate bit of flesh showing between that ridiculous dress’s neckline and your ear, you with the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen.

“This is a pointless, and inappropriate, conversation.”

“Who knew you’d be so stuffy? Are all dukes this stuffy? I should have told Cat, no stuffy guys.”

“Stuffy?”

“Yeah, stuffy. Pompous. Rigid. Uptight. Overly proper.”

“You think I’m stuffy?”

His blood burned, his eyes searing hers. He pulled her into the garden and around the hedge, in the place they’d stood the previous morning, out of sight of the other guests.

His hand reached up and hovered in mid-air, over her breasts, without touching them, before he put it back down, clenching it in a fist at his side.

“Do you have any idea how far from stuffy I feel at the moment, Eliza James?” he ground out. “I’ll tell you who’s my ‘type,’ as you put it.” He ran his fingers up into her hair, fixing her head between them. “Bizarrely endearing widows with unusual ways of speaking.” He swooped in to kiss her.

“American women who claim,” he nipped at her chin, “to be from the future, who bewitch me with their flashing blue eyes and swishing derrieres and lovely breasts.” His mouth found hers again, and his tongue traced a path across her upper lip. “Who make me doubt my own sanity. But if this is madness, I want—” He pulled her face toward his again. “—it all.”

SORM About the Author

A lover of romance novels since the age of ten (shh, don’t tell mom!), Margaret Locke declared as a teen that she’d write romances when she grew up. Once an adult, however, she figured she ought to be doing grown-up things (such as earning that master’s degree in medieval history), not penning steamy love stories. Yeah, whatever. Turning forty cured her of that silly notion. Margaret is now happily ensconced back in the clutches of her first love, this time as an author as well as a reader. Margaret lives in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with her fantastic husband, two fabulous kids, and two fat cats. You can usually find her in front of some sort of screen (electronic or window); she’s come to terms with the fact that she’s not an outdoors person.

SORM About the Author

I’m a married mother of two who lives a very ordinary life outside of my imagination. When I’m not writing I’m usually reading. I also like to cook and that means I like to read cookbooks and cooking magazines. In the summer I enjoy spending time gardening and in the winter I like to read gardening magazines and seed catalogues. I love lying on the beach or on my deck with a glass of wine and a good book. I also love to travel. As you can see, pretty much all my activities involve reading somehow! Although I don’t have as much time for it any more, I also love to shop, especially for clothes and shoes. Some think I’m obsessed with shoes but that is not true (although my husband would point out that there is no room left in our closet).

Cowboys Forever Bundle

Six Women—Six Cowboys Forever

Six Cowboy Love Stories by the best-selling authors who brought you Cowboy Up 1&2

Claiming a Cowboy’s Heart

Even broken souls deserve a second chance at love…

Elementary Teacher, Michelle Alt’s faced untold trials in her life, yet she continues to do what’s right to make things better for the next generation.

Cowboy Veterinarian, Preston Hall has lost everything in order to follow his dreams and return to his grandfather’s small town practice.

These two broken souls recognize each other’s pain and come together to heal, but fear and misunderstandings send their blossoming relationship into a tailspin. Will they be able to put aside their pain to find the love of a lifetime?

~Excerpt~

With her floral shoulder bag hanging from her arm, Michelle Alt approached the dead raccoon. The smell overwhelmed her. Pinching her nose, she took deep breaths through her mouth. The full moon illuminated the intersection across from her school. People should learn to drive slower on this street. This time a raccoon, someday a child.

She squatted and dumped the contents of her purse on the asphalt. Removing the cheap dollar-store clothespin from her purse, she dealt with the smell and closed off her nose. The spring had just enough strength to press her nostrils together without hurting. With her hands free, she selected a yellow pair of sunglasses from inside her bag and slipped them on the raccoon’s face. A smile flitted across her lips.

“That’s a start.” Looking at the pile of junk sitting at her side, she removed a couple of more items, setting a red plastic cup with a paper umbrella next to the raccoon’s hand. Last, she inserted a small bottle of sunscreen between his arm and body then cleaned up the remaining materials, stuffing them into her bag.

It’s perfect. He looks like he’s resting in the sun. Another day at the beach for Mr. Raccoon. She glanced at her watch. Crap, I need to run. I hate asking Mom to watch my daughter for these little acts of willful disobedience. Thank goodness, she’s more than happy to watch Connie, even for, in her words, ‘a waste of time’. But I’m so thankful to have her helping me. I’d never be able to do it all alone. Standing, she slipped her bag over her shoulder, glanced down the street—no one in sight—and dashed off toward home.

A deep sigh escaped her lips. The porch light glimmered in the distance. Almost home and no one the wiser. I can’t wait to see what people think of this roadkill art. All caught up in her fantasy, she bumped into a brick wall. “Umph.” Michelle raised her gaze and locked on the fullest lips she’d ever seen. Are they as soft as they look?

“I’m sorry,” the wall spoke. “I didn’t see you.”

SORM Excerpt

She allowed her friend to drag her back toward the dressing rooms while poor Cherri followed with gigantic piles of clothing and undergarments. Thank goodness they were currently the only customers in the place, there was no way she would parade in front of others in what they will make her try on.

After a while she had to admit the two women had a certain high-class taste for suggestive yet sensual clothing. Ten or more outfits later, her nervousness faded. She was starting to look at this as an adventure. Mel as well as Cherri voiced their opinions on different outfits. Some of their comments shocking her, while others had her laughing outright. Quite a few times, Melanie needed to rush in to help Lauren with the intricacies of some of the attire. One dress happened to be mostly straps which strategically covered only the naughty bits.

“A no way on this one,” she called out, “I want my body to look sexy, not red from all the rubbing.”

A variety of little black dresses slipped on and off her body in a matter of moments. Flaws with each of them. “I don’t know black isn’t the best color for me. It makes me look washed-out. Let’s try some other colors.”

Cherri quickly selected more dresses, bustiers, thigh-high stockings, and barely-there thongs. Trying each on, Lauren felt like a live Barbie doll. They’d pick out the clothes. She’d try them on then parade for their approval. None of the outfits screamed the one yet.

A blue jersey dress with a sweeping hemline caught Lauren’s gaze. “If I need help getting into these here, who’s going to help me get dressed in Chicago?” Lauren shouted. She pulled the blue dress over her head. The fabric hugged her figure. The uneven hemline made her legs look even longer. Hmm. This one isn’t bad. Lauren twirled in the mirror to get the full effect. She ran her hands over her waist then down her hips, feeling the silky fabric under her hands. The dress hugged her curves, making her feel sexy. She opened the curtain with a flourish.

“Oh wow!”

Lauren smiled at Melanie’s encouraging reaction.

“Your date will be helping you out of that dress! Damn girl. You look so good. The neckline shows off your girls and the blue makes your eyes seem bigger, too. This dress is a keeper. This guy is definitely going to want to strip you and eat you alive when he sees you.”

The pile of clothes to try on dwindled down to nothing while the pile of keepers grew exponentially. The black dresses lay discarded along with the strap number. The corsets and bustiers—also no-gos. Those outfits made her feel like a dominatrix—way outside her comfort zone. The black widow corset she’d tried on only made Cherri and Melanie laugh before suggesting they buy her a whip.

When destiny knocks, do you invite it in?

When a spell book lands on Ariana’s doorstep, her world is thrown into turmoil. That’s nothing new for her, except this time it involves bizarre and terrifying creatures who attempt to kill her. Then there’s the little fact that she now has the ability to perform magic.

Hadeon is another new addition in her life. He happened to drop in at the same time the spell book appeared. He’s dark, sexy, and alpha as hell, and Ariana doesn’t know if she wants to kill him or love him.

But all this chaos is nothing compared to what destiny has in store for her. A future is promised of royalty and immense power, palaces and undying love. But hers is a destiny that is not easily won. She will have to fight to the death against those who want to take it all for themselves. And when the real battle begins, just who the true enemy is will surprise everyone.

Content Warning: contains explicit language, sex scenes, and some violence

SORM Excerpt

Hadeon opens the door and enters the room. Ariana smiles, barely able to meet his gaze. He wears black sweatpants, his upper half bare. The tattoos and his rock-hard body pilfer her attention. He looks like he’s been carved from the hardest, sexiest piece of granite available.

He sits beside her on the bed, and she’s mesmerized as he stares into her eyes. He takes a ribbon of her wet hair between his thumb and forefinger and slides down the length of it until his hand falls away. Saying nothing, his fingers float to her face and flutter down her cheek. Her need throbs as his thumb rubs along her bottom lip. Ariana’s breaths grow heavy. This simple gesture of affection makes her body warm and melt like ice in a fire.

“I’m sorry,” he says, his voice hoarse and gentle.

“Why? I’m the one who went out searching for trouble.”

His face nears; he slants his mouth over Ariana’s and slides his tongue between her lips. She sighs, both pleasure and angst, for she knows he will not allow this to advance any further. His hands cup her cheeks as his kiss grows deeper. Then he pulls away, and she is bereft. His forehead rests against hers, breaths heavy.

“I know why you did what you did. Why you do what you always do. I understand how it feels. The lust you feel, so intense it burns a path through your skull if you don’t feed it. I know how it feels to be swept up in a moment of passion, yearning to satiate the desire that grows hot like a fire in your belly.”

She backs away a fraction. Never before has someone been able to describe these emotions, sensations, and desires. “How?” she whispers, edging toward his lips with her own until they touch, warm and alive. His tongue finds hers again and she moans. His tenderness is unfurling her like a ripe bud.

His lips fall to her neck, then slide up her jaw, breath and fire burning along her flesh. His hot mouth tantalizes her ear. “It’s a part of you, Ariana. It makes you who you are, and who I am.”

Again she rocks away and looks into his eyes, which are now a lighter brown than they have ever been. His face is so alluring she could cry. She wants to speak great floods of words, but she can’t, trapped between bemusement, curiosity, and the most brilliant yearning she has ever experienced.
