When I chose to leave home I knew what I was giving up. I knew I was walking away from life as I knew it and the plans that we had made.
We…us…him and I…
It’s funny to think of him in a different light…or life.
That’s what it feels like, a lifetime ago.
But I’m a different person now. I have rules and goals. And if it wasn’t for my parents’ vow renewal I would have successfully evaded him for the rest of my life. This is not by choice, I can tell you that.
I just need to focus and remember the key to this weekend is avoidance…and alcohol. But if anyone can pull that off it’s me, Sidney Chandler, queen of avoiding anything that will make me feel.
It’s just one weekend, right?
One very long weekend with my family…friends…my sisters and me…together, and our nemeses, the McAllister triplets.
What could possibly go wrong?
They say you never forget your first love, now just imagine how hard it is to forget your only.
This is going to suck.

Untangling the Stars by Alyse Miller

April 4, 2016 Spotlight 0

Untangling the StarsGenre: Contemporary Romance

Even a bad romance can have a happy ending.

Staying true to her own character has never been a problem for Dr. Alessandra Foxglove. Andie has devoted herself to teaching others, and – not to toot her own horn – she’s damned good at it, too. A beloved college professor and engaged social activist, Andie has her heart – and both her hands – full.

So when celebrity bad boy Guy Wilder wanders into her classroom one day by accident, Andie doesn’t think much of it at first. There are guest speakers at the university on a daily basis – although none as devilishly handsome as primetime’s favorite preternatural lady-killer with lightning bolt blue eyes, Silas Dove. But when he shows up again the next day after a capricious goodbye, Andie begins to see that there’s more going on behind the scenes with this brooding, bad boy star. And even though she’s built a career on analyzing the human reaction to Hollywood’s most sexy and dangerous characters, she can’t help herself from falling under the very same spell she preaches against. Besides, with cheekbones like that, she couldn’t say no if she tried.

SORM Excerpt
He pulled his lips away from hers, letting the kiss trail off in a series of smaller kisses on the edge of her mouth, her chin, her jaw. Mouth still open, he tipped his forehead against hers, hiding his face behind a curtain of hair.

“It’s late.” His voice cracked under the strain of his need, but anxiety crept back into the set of his jaw. “I should go.”

Andie tried to see through the locks of fallen hair and decode the man underneath. He was a tricky one, this enigma wrapped in a riddle. If she knew what was best for her, she’d let him go. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew this could never work—this romance between a regular girl and a man from the headlines. Those relationships never worked, in or out of the movies. It was hot and heavy and then boom, someone’s arguing pre-nup semantics in annulment court while the rest of the world reads along. Andie thought about all of those gloomy—and very probable—scenarios and made her decision.

Guy didn’t move, but he did look up at her. She looked back at him, unyielding and unashamed. She knew what asking him to stay meant, and she wanted him to stay. Please stay.

When two explosive personalities collide, one runs and the other snares.

SORM Excerpt

“Are you smelling me again?” I accuse.

He grins.

“I warned you I would keep doing it until you told me the scent.”

His arms come around me, causing me to tense. Dipping his hand between my thighs, he arranges my left leg over the seat.

“What are you doing?”

He pulls me back against his chest.

“Teaching you how to drive,” he states, taking my hands and putting them on the handles.

“Uh, no.” I shake my head. “I prefer riding bitch.”

I try to stand, but he pulls me down by my hips.

“Sometimes I like to ride a bitch, too,” he says low in my ear.

“You’re a bitch,” I snap, my first reaction to his innuendo.

“Is that your way of asking to ride me later?” he tosses back before turning on the snowmobile.

I’m stunned silent and I hate that he did it. Looking down, I see a decal between the windshield and gas cap. Gas or Ass. No One Rides for Free.

I roll my eyes, turn my head, and say sarcastically, “Nice decal.”

“I’m glad you saw that. Now we don’t have to discuss payment for the mountain tour. Will it be gas or ass?”

“I’ll pay the same way your daughters do,” I retort.

“They have their own snowmobiles,” he answers, an edge to his response.

“Do they charge in ass, too?” I ask, a little too snotty.

I can’t stand how he gets to me. I don’t get snotty. Bitchy, yes, but snotty and stunned silent, never.

“That’s not funny,” he growls.

“Hey, I figure you’re leading by example,” I quip, giving a small shrug.

Grabbing my hands again, he places them on the handlebars.

With his hands over mine, he shows me how to use the throttle, brakes, and how to maneuver. Thankfully, he never leaves me to drive on my own. We’d both be dead.

After taking us to another ridge, this time seeing mountain goats, and driving through an open area for me to practice, we arrive back to the cabin.
I climb off so he can put the snowmobile away in the large shed and his hands slide over my ass, squeezing.

“Hey!” I jump away from him.

“Ass,” he calls out, wearing a large grin.

Beautiful Najee Torres has just woken from a six-month coma. The victim of a carjacking, she was shot and doesn’t know her name, where she is or how she got there. Hard as she tries, she also can’t recall the seemingly dutiful husband at her bedside or the two kids who are waiting for her at home.

Aidan Torres is beyond relieved when his wife finally opens her eyes. When he learns she has amnesia, he believes it is a second chance to get things right. He loves her. And the last thing he wants is for her to discover they were on the verge of a divorce before the carjacking.
Najee works hard to get her life back and struggles to remember all of the people supporting her as she recovers. They really seem to care about her, but it’s hard to know whom she can trust since she is also trying to figure out who threatened to kill her as she was coming out of her coma. Why would anyone want her dead? And why is she so leery of her sexy, adoring husband? She finds her heart wants another when she comes out of the coma, her doctor Dr. Ian McCullum.

Will her memories eventually all come flooding back or will she be forced to spend the rest of her life looking over her shoulder?
I Remember Me, by popular author Leila Lacey, is a standalone novel. This is classic mystery romance at its finest. Suspenseful and racy, it focuses on a woman who must recover all she has lost if she wants to live happily ever after.

SORM Excerpt

Najee clawed her way through the darkness of her coma.

Then she heard a voice saying, “You’re going to die bitch, now or later. It doesn’t matter when, but you’re going to die.”

The voice was so terrifying it propelled her forward closer into consciousness.

She was enveloped in pain, sinking in and out of an oblivion, which pushed her into an awareness that was accompanied by pain that was the most intense, all-encompassing misery she couldn’t localize. Just when she wanted to scream at the top of her lungs in agonizing pain, a warm feeling of relief would wash over her and she would again slip into blissful unconsciousness.

Slowly as the days went, by Najee was conscious more and more. If she focused really hard, she could hear voices, the incessant beep of electronic monitors, and what sounded like voices far in the distance.

“Moved just in time…most would have died from this injury…”

“…How long before we know if there is any brain damage?”

“When will you be able to remove the bullet?”

Bullet? Who had a bullet? Where? Wait—are they talking about me? She thought.

SORM About the Author
Bow down to the curves. That’s the philosophy that’s motivated romantic fiction author Leila Lacey as she’s wrote over a dozen popular books taking a hot and exciting look at love and adventure from a strong, curvy woman’s viewpoint. The books have been received with enthusiasm, and it’s clear the best is yet to come for these BBW romances (Big Beautiful Woman).

“I think it’s important to present strong, beautiful, curvy women that have amazing female to female relationships,” commented Lacey, on what motivates her. “If we don’t provide alternative role models for people, they could fall into the trap of not loving who is looking them back in the mirror. Romantic fiction should entertain, but it should also help build confidence and a great self-image. I’m trying to cover all these things and more in my books.”

According to the author, Lacey had a quite unexpected entry into writing. Although always interested in being a writer she never explored her skills fully until being convinced to join a writing contest. Within 30 days she had finished her first novel, won the contest, and never looked back. An example of a woman with confidence proving to herself, and the world, what can be accomplished when dreams are pursued actively.
Some of her most popular books in the plus size women genre include: Phoenix Rising; A Very Curvy Christmas; Dr. Black’s Patient; Love’s Legacy; Shelby’s Awakening; and many, many more.

Tamaria’s Two cents: Allegiant Movie

March 22, 2016 Two Cents 0

I went to see Allegiant on opening night because I couldn’t wait to see it! The special effects in the movie are unbelievable and the story was extremely enjoyable!

I would of liked to see more of the relationship between Four and Tris in the movie. They did show the conflict on choosing different sides and the respect they have for each other but no passion was felt in the two kissing scenes they had.

In this movie Four , Tris and a few others venture out of war torn Chicago and over the safety of the wall (that scene is just amazing) to see what if anything is out there.

How close did the movie follow follow the book?

It’s been over a year since I read it but I remember the important parts and they all made it into the film, so I was pleased.

I’ll reread the book before part 2 releases next year which has a brand new name (I thought that was very strange why not just call them part one and part two like all the other franchise did) Ascendant which will focus on the second half of the book Allegiant.

There have been rumours that they may change the ending of the book for the movie. This would make me very happy as I hated the ending. I was so angry with what happens in Allegiant that I whipped my book across the room.

The book series in all I did love and I do understand why the author did what she did but it just sucked for the reader.

Tamaria’s Two Cents: The Orginals

March 8, 2016 Two Cents 0

Today I’m going to give you my thoughts on the TV series The Originals which is a spin-ff of the Vampire Diaries.

The two hour cross-over episode was fabulous. I’m even caught up on VD now and I’m liking some of the twist but still hate the skip ahead 3 years thing.

I’m a huge Klaus fan so no matter what he does (and man he does some really bad stuff) I still love him!

Spoiler Alert! If you are not caught up on this show please don’t read any further.

The orginals

I binged watched this show after I finished VD and I LOVE IT!

Here we go…

Last Friday, two brothers (Kol & Finn) returned (I miss Rebekah) and the family faces new threats. Klaus is no longer linked to his sire line which makes him an easy target for his enemies.

Also, last week Elijah and what he did for Hayley was kick-ass!

As the episode ended Klaus was leaving town  and on-the-run with Hayley and the baby, what upsets me in in Friday’s episode the VD at the end when they did a 3 years from now… Caroline went to New Orleans with the twins to seek out Klaus and the barkeep said that he’s been gone for years.

PLEASE say it’s not so! The Originals without Klaus would be horrible!

The Originals will be back April 1st!

SORM Excerpt

The Way We Were

I’m not sure we ever really wanted kids … I mean it’s just not something we ever got around to doing. With my parents as role models, can you really blame me? Robbie wasn’t super close with his folks either. They had split up when he was a teenager. Years of being put in the middle of the war that that raged between them, being forced to celebrate two of every holiday, and dealing with step-parents to boot, he was pretty much checked out on the whole family thing. In our seven years of marriage, the subject rarely came up. We were a career couple, you know? Actually, we had both claimed to want kids, but not that much, and never at the same time. We had married shortly before I turned thirty-one. Clock ticking (what, you mean he didn’t hear it?), I half assumed that we would start a family right away. But then Robbie got promoted and was almost never home. I buckled down at work and found myself loving academic life. Sixteen credits shy of a bachelor’s degree made Robbie a tad defensive about attending work functions with me, and with him so often out of town, I started going to most events on my own. There was always something … a colleague was promoted or published and we needed to celebrate. A visiting author or guest speaker was in town. An opening in the department prompted a spate of dinner interviews. I never said “No.” I always said “Where?” or “What time?” When Robbie did join me, it was awkward. He didn’t fit in. I knew it and so did he. So did my colleagues. He came across as too glib, too smooth. He wasn’t, but he seemed superficial around my earnest, rather shabby crew of co-workers. An hour into dinner at my department chair’s home and my very extroverted, very lovely husband would be hissing at me.

“You said we’d just stay for drinks. You promised, Jackie.” Torn between wanting to appease my husband and needing to make a favorable impression, I felt like I was being pulled apart. I would beg him to be patient.

“Just twenty minutes, okay? What’s twenty minutes, huh?”

Sometimes I would make our excuses to the host.

“He has an early flight, you know?” Once, I just ignored Rob, and he proceeded to get drunk. Not rip-roaring or scene-making. Just quietly, morosely hammered. Enough to fall asleep on an overstuffed armchair in the den. When I found him there later that evening, I felt such a range of emotions. Exasperation that he was such a poor sport, relief that I had been able to stay for the entire party, and fear that we really were growing apart. What did it mean that my husband and I had so little in common? I stuffed him into the car and by the time we arrived home, he was sober enough to make it into the house and collapse on the sofa. I slept alone that night and we never spoke about it again. Not once. But, we really started to go our separate ways after that. I stopped asking him to accompany me anywhere. I threw myself into work and told myself we were fine and sometimes I actually believed me.

Freeing Lost Souls by Tracy Kincaid

March 2, 2016 Spotlight 0

freeinglostsouls-front-1Genre:Historical Romance, with Paranormal twist

Series: The Family Tree Series Book 1

Sarah Finny is an artist who prides herself on being a free spirit. Her job sends her to Gettysburg, where she discovers a powerful connection to the legendary battlefield. While exploring the historical landmark, Sarah comes upon park guide, Bruce Wilks who has injured his leg. After offering to help him, Sarah develops an unexpected attraction toward Bruce, which threatens her heart as well as, her cherished nomadic way of life.

A powerful and mysterious entity brings them together hoping to enlist Sarah and Bruce in finding his own long-lost love and, thereby, freeing lost souls.

Book one in The Family Tree Series.

SORM Excerpt
“So what are you up to now?” Bruce inquires me.

“I thought I would get some lunch. How about you?”

“Would you like to get some lunch together?”

“Sure, that would be great.”

Mary comes back to the front, holding a bag for Bruce. “You two need anything else?” she asks.

“No, I think we have everything we need. Thanks again, Mary. See you soon,” Bruce says.

“Nice to meet you, Sarah. Have fun this weekend.”

“Thanks, Mary.”

After getting our costumes, we put them in our cars then walk to a little sandwich shop on the corner. We get a table outside since it’s such a nice day.

“So, what is it that we do at this reenactment?” I ask.

“You will be at one of the hospitals they have set up in town. You’ll be pretending to be a nurse. I’ll be in the Wheatfield, at least during the battle. We just do what they instruct us to do. It’s really easy, actually.”

“So who decided what we’re doing?” I ask because I find it strange that I’m to be a nurse.

“Actually, the Historical Society works with the genealogy people. If some of the re-enactors had family in the war, then they base their roles on that. For instance, since Edward Wilks was wounded in the Wheatfield, that is where I’ll be. You, on the other hand, are a woman, not that there is anything wrong with that.” He grins. “But since you had a nurse in the war, they thought the best place for you was the hospital.”

“I guess that makes sense.”

“Those who didn’t have anyone in the war fill in where needed. It’s a whole production, really. I just do what they say.”
“It does sound interesting. I haven’t seen you around much. What have you been up to?” I ask.

“Tourist season. Why, you miss me?” he teases.

“Of course. I thought you were my own personal tour guide. I didn’t think I had to share you with anyone,” I tease back.
“How about I take you out before the craziness starts?”

“Sure, when?”

“That depends on what you’d like to do. Are you sick of the Civil War stuff yet? If so, we can go somewhere outside of town and catch a movie or dancing. Or we can stay in town and enjoy the festivities.”

“You dance?” I laugh.

“I’ve been known to cut a rug now and then.” He feigns being hurt.

“Well, I can’t dance worth a damn except what we were doing at the concert, but that really wasn’t dancing, so how about the stuff in town?”

He awakens a hunger in her that both frightens and excites her. Tiffani mistakes Jeb’s lifelong obsession for love at first sight and soon finds herself a prisoner, but it’s a hot, steamy trip to get there.

SORM Excerpt
“Can I help you?” He says. His low, gravelly voice awakens something deep inside me. Lust. Need. Desire. His amber eyes remind me of a fleeting memory, a whisp of someone familiar, and then it’s gone.

Warmth spreads through my cheeks. I blame the red wine again. I rub my hands together, feeling awkward and geeky, incredibly geeky. “Uhhh…,” I pause trying to remember what I wanted to say.

He raises an eyebrow, a very sexy eyebrow. “Yes?”

Think Tiffani, think. Now is not the time to panic. Grab him by the balls. Um, that’s probably not a good idea. Seize the moment. “I love your music. It’s like you’re a chameleon. You take on whatever the song demands—the highs, the lows…you’re brilliant!”
Oh. God. Did I say that? I am a geek and evidently, still quite intoxicated.

Tamaria’s Two Cents: The Vampire Diaries Season 7

February 23, 2016 Two Cents 0

Happy Tuesday! A few month ago a friend of mine told me I needed to start watching The Vampire Diaries. So, I binge watched all 6 seasons that were on Netflixs in like 3 weeks! Yes, I take my binge watching seriously!

I’ve never read the series but I was drawn into the TV series instantly and loved it! I adore Damon!

Season 7 spoilers below!

Vampire Diaries

The first 6 seasons to were amazing. Season 7 is another story… I’m hating it.

Without Elena I feel the show is lost and should come to end.

The premise is two brothers in love with the same woman and they removed the conflict by putting her in a deep sleep for years to come.

Also, the flashing ahead 3 years to me is stupid!

In conclusion, I did love the series up until this season.  Instead of bitching about how much I hate it I’ve decided to stop watching until this season is complete.

I hope you all have a great Tuesday and next week I’ll be giving my two cents on the spinoff series The Originals!

I do love me some Klaus!

Just a side note I’m a HUGE Twilight fan and I found it funny that the actors who play/played Edward and Stephen were very similar in looks and mannerism!

See you next week!
