Fetching Love by Tamara Hoffa

SOR Fetching Love VBT BannerGenre: Western Contemporary Romance

As a fourteen year old, Megan Malone thought Chad Ryan hung the moon, but the boy of her dreams was already a man. Chad left town for seven years. Now he’s back. He’s the new veterinarian in town and he’s working for her dad, in the Animal clinic that she manages. Never mate a dog from your own kennel, so the saying goes, but…

Chad Ryan is a dog. The skinny little girl who used to trail after him like a lost puppy, is now a beautiful woman. He has no business even noticing. On the heels of a failed relationship, and the beginning of his career, there is no time for love in his life.

A matchmaking mom and dad, a boisterous yellow lab and fate have different plans. When it’s dropped in their path, no dog can resist Fetching Love.

SORM excerpt

The back door swung open and Chase sauntered in. “Hi, Ma. It smells great in here.” He snatched a slice of tomato from the board in front of her and she slapped at his hand. “Get out of that, you. The tomatoes are for the sauce.”

“You’re making sauce and Sam and I didn’t get an invite for dinner?” He gave her his best puppy dog face.

“We’re having Megan and Doc over for dinner,” Chad interjected before his mother could speak.

“I’m making plenty. I’ll send some home with you and you can make my Samantha some nice spaghetti for dinner.”

Chase looked crestfallen. “Aww, come on Ma. You know I hate to cook.”

“Yes, I know, but Sam has been working too hard and she is big as a house. It’s the least you can do for her. All you have to do is boil up some noodles.”

“I’m telling her you said she was big as a house,” he teased.

Wiping her hands on her apron she placed her hands on her hips and gave her middle son the stare. Chad turned back to his tomatoes so he didn’t get caught in the crossfire. “I beg your pardon, young man. Did you just threaten your mother?”

Chad struggled to keep a straight face, laughing now would earn him a smack in the head, but it was so funny to see his itty bitty mother squaring off with her six foot plus son. Watching out of the corner of his eye he saw Chase drop his head and mutter, “No, ma’am. I was only teasing.”

Chad bit his cheek and continued to peel tomatoes.

“Shoo, you two. Get out of my kitchen. Go eat your lunch in the living room.” She took the knife from Chad’s hand and pushed him toward the door.

He grabbed the bag of food from the table. “Grab us a couple beers, Chase,” he tossed over his shoulder as he exited the room.

They settled themselves on the sofa and Chad pulled the sandwiches and chips from the bag, along with some napkins. “I got you roast beef. That okay?”

“It’s great. So, how’s the new job going?”

They made small talk while they ate. Catching up on the goings on of the ranch and local gossip. When they had finished their sandwiches Chase sat back on the couch, took a long sip of his beer and leveled his gaze on Chad. “Okay, spill. I can tell you have something on your mind, so quit pussy footing around and let me have it.”

“I never could get away with anything around here. I swear, between you, Chance and Ma, a man doesn’t stand a chance.”

“Quit stalling.”

“Okay, okay. Well, you remember Doc’s daughter, Megan?”

“How could I forget? That poor girl had such a crush on you. She followed you around like a little puppy. Oh, no. She’s not still trailing after you, is she?”

“I wish,” Chad muttered.

Chase stuck a finger in his ear and wiggled it. “Did I just hear you right? You want little Megs following you around?”

“Obviously you haven’t seen little Megs in a while. She’s not so little anymore. In fact, she’s a stone fox.”

“Seriously? So, what’s the problem?”

“I don’t know what to do. She runs the All About Animals office now, we work together. I know I shouldn’t pursue her, but I can’t get her out of my mind.”

“Is she still stuck on you?”

“I really don’t know. She always acts very professionally, but every once in a while I think I catch her watching me.”

“So, ask her out. The worst she can do is say ‘no’”

“No, that’s not the worst she could do. We work together. What if it doesn’t work out?”

“What if it does? Are you really such a chicken shit that you’re willing to ignore your feelings for this girl because of a maybe?”

“I don’t know. Julie really—”

Chase interrupted. “Screw Julie.”

“Been there. Done that. Got the broken heart to prove it.”

A Saint’s Salvation by Beverly Ovalle

April 25, 2014 Uncategorized 0

SOR A Saint's Salvation VBT Banner2Genre: Contemporary Romance

Corporal Nicholas ‘Saint’ Santiago needs to go home to reclaim the man he used to be. To be the man he was before Operation Enduring Freedom slowly hardened his heart. He needs to reconnect to the values and the reasons he is doing what he does. Saint also needs to try to forget the courageous woman he knows was meant to be his.

Petty Officer Angelina Jones’ life changed the moment Saint saved her life. She survived the blast but now has to deal with the fact that she will never be whole. Knowing Saint received a ‘Dear John’ letter, Angelina has no intention of being his rebound romance. She needs to be loved for herself. She needs to forget about the one man she knows was meant to be hers.

They each try to find someone to help them forget.

But what does fate have planned for them?

SORM excerpt

A shout from Hamilton brought him back to the here and now. “Hey, Saint, do you see any trouble coming?” On guard at the west wall, Nick shook his head. Not that it was much of a wall, a couple of sandbags holding up a makeshift bullet riddled wooden fence, an illusion of safety and security.

“No, it all looks clear.” Well, as clear as normal, Nick thought. The Seabees and the Army Corp of Engineers had done their best to give them a clear line of site, but the rubble of buildings and piles of rock where there used to be a town never seemed to go away. Rebels constantly hid there, randomly firing at their FOB, a forward operating base in Helmand Provence, making it almost impossible to build a more secure perimeter.

Nick could see kids playing in the dirt. In the distance the locals were harvesting the poppy fields. Some of the largest poppy fields in the world were right outside the walls of the FOB. Beautiful when in bloom, they were more pervasive and did more damage than the terrorists.

“Anymore threats?”

“When aren’t there threats?” Every damn day there were threats. “Why, is there a problem?”

“The brass is making noise. When they do something stupid, we end up paying for it.” Hamilton sounded disgusted. As Hamilton spoke, shots were fired over and through the fence, adding more holes to the dilapidated barrier. Nick and Hamilton hit the ground, rolling toward the sandbags to return fire through the cracks. “See what I mean?”

“Yeah it’s been a while since they shot at us, at least a couple of days.” Nick’s sarcasm caused Hamilton to laugh.

“Probably someone is coming to pick up something from the poppy fields and they want to keep us from seeing who.” Hamilton glanced at him. “You doing okay?”

“Gettin’ there. It was just a shock, ya know?”

“Yeah, damn women. The least they could do is be faithful while we’re out here fighting.”

“Yeah, it sucks. I just can’t help thinking it’s my fault.”

“Fuck. How the hell could it be? You weren’t even there. The bitch knew you were gone, were going to be gone.” They fired shots, aiming at the muzzle flash in the distance. More Marines headed their way, sprinting from cover to cover. Perez came running, bringing out ammo and providing more fire power.

Another crack and Perez went down with a cry.

“Fuck! Medic! Man down!” The cry went out, passed through until the call went to the corpsman, while Nick tried to stem the blood flow. Hands pushed his away. Nick looked up. Petty Officer Jones, better known as Doc, had bandages ready.

“Help me roll this on until we can get him out of here.” Her voice sent a ripple through him. Nick had always ignored the attraction he had felt for her. He’d had his girl back home, and fraternization out here could get him thrown in the brig. Not to mention the brig out here was a hell hole.

Nick was leery about approaching Doc now. The Dear John letter had been a shock. He had known Leila for years. Hell, they had been friends since they were little. Her betrayal was unexpected. Nick didn’t even really know Doc. He could trust her with his life, but he wasn’t ready for another go around with his heart, no matter the attraction he felt.

Nick looked toward the fence line, rifle at the ready. Shots were firing sporadically around him. That’s when he saw it, the trail from a grenade launcher, unmistakable. Shit!

Royally Trained by Diana Ames

SOR Royally Trained VBT Banner

Genre: Erotic Romance/Dark Erotica

In a country stuck in the dark ages is a world filled with sex and scandal. Governed by royalty, those in power have many deep-rooted secrets that span generations.

Prince Anton’s sordid past has forged his future. He finds his only pleasure from being a sadist, but he knows he must continue the royal bloodline and create an heir for his country. Forced by responsibility, he turns to the one man who can give him the best of both worlds. But will Prince Anton find what he’s searching for?

Damian is the ruler of The Dungeon. He is the Teacher, and the only man Prince Anton can trust to provide him with what he needs. He is on a mission to find a virgin submissive to become the prince’s life partner. What happens when the Teacher falls for the woman he’s been ordered to train?

As lust and love spiral out of control, Prince Anton and Damian find their lives change unexpectedly because of one independent and defiant woman.

SORM excerpt

Damian was going over the alcohol shipment that had arrived this morning. One of the reasons his sex clubs were so popular was because of the liquor he had shipped in from the mainland. It was expensive, but the quality was much greater than anything produced on Colania. Currently though, it was giving him a headache. He was missing a case of the high-end scotch he kept on hand.

Prince Anton strutted into his office without warning.

“Don’t you knock?” Damian said scathingly.

“Didn’t know I needed to,” Prince Anton replied.

“With all due respect, sire,” Damian said sarcastically, “this is my office in my club. Next time, knock.” Damian rose to his feet, his body fluid like a great jungle cat, before he went to embrace his prince. “Now, what the hell is so important you had to schedule an appointment?”

“I have a job for you,” Prince Anton told him. He returned the one-arm embrace stiffly and then moved away with haste. He was uncomfortable with physical contact that he didn’t initiate or control. When the two men sat, he elaborated. “My thirtieth birthday is approaching.”

“In a year and a half.” Damian snorted. “Do you think it wise to skip twenty-nine?”

“As the last of the monarchy, it is my job to reproduce,” Prince Anton continued. “As much as I would like to see the genes that have shaped me die out, the country would fall into a tailspin. Although we are remote and somewhat undeveloped, we are a rich nation. The power I hold is all that keeps us out of the eye of the world and off the radar for those who would oppress us.”

“What does this have to do with me?” Damian asked warily.

“I have no desire to repeat history,” Prince Anton said. “We both know that my sexual nature is more like that of the queen than my father.”

“Do you want me to train you?” Damian asked, confused. “To help you learn to control your appetite?”

“No,” Prince Anton said firmly. “I don’t think either of us could handle taking our relationship to that level.”

The two men had grown up together, which accounted for Damian’s lack of respect and boundaries, but Prince Anton wanted to maintain formality between them.

“You could be right,” Damian said with a light chuckle. “So, what do you want from me?”

“I want you to find her, the woman who will bear the future of the country,” Prince Anton said. “Find her and train her to be what I need.”

“You can’t just order up a woman on demand,” Damian told him with a raised eyebrow.

“You must find a woman with good genetics although Gilly can look into that after the candidate meets the other criteria,” the prince said, ignoring Damian. “Beautiful, obviously. I’m not particular with features, but it stands to reason if my life mate is attractive, then I will have a better chance with reproduction. I’d also prefer that she not have a single drop of royal blood regardless of past royal practices. I do not wish to produce monsters or further any imperfections through inbreeding, however distant the connection might be. She needs to be completely submissive. I will be in control of any encounters at all times. Whoever she is, she must be willing to leave her past life behind. I refuse to be burdened with in-laws who might not agree with my domination of their daughter.”

“That’s quite a shopping list,” Damian said, eyeing the prince harshly. “Anything else you’d like to add before I order a woman for you?”

“There is one more requirement,” Prince Anton said seriously. “And this is perhaps the most important of all. She must be a virgin.”

“You do realize when I train a woman to cede her control to her master that I have sex with her?” Damian asked incredulously. “Submissives have to learn to respond on command; an untried woman will not have that opportunity.”

“I will not have a woman who has felt a man between her thighs before me. I will not have my children born to a woman who will behave as my mother did. She must be pure!” Prince Anton roared.

“If I refuse to do this…” Damian didn’t finish the question.

“You will not refuse,” Prince Anton said, rising to his feet. “I expect you at the castle within the week. The search begins immediately.”

Defector by Denysè Bridger

April 25, 2014 Uncategorized 0

SOR Defecter VBT BannerGenre: Thriller
Andrew Dahle is a career spook, with no messy emotional ties to complicate his life. He’s worked with the best, and despite himself, he’s about to discover that he’s got friends he really didn’t know he wanted.

A straight-forward operation to grab a defector before he can leave the country with a top secret project goes wildly awry, and forces Andrew to choose between saving the life of a colleague’s son or nailing his target. To his great surprise, he saves the young man’s life, and wakes up in a hospital.

Grateful, Richard MacAvoy, a retired agent with his own elite contacts and players, steps in when Dahle is injured saving his son. Desperate to complete his mission, Andrew reluctantly accepts the help MacAvoy offers, and in the process just might learn that alone isn’t always the best way to work, and friends might be worth the vulnerability he’s always shunned.

SORM excerpt

Andrew felt the shadows releasing him, the sensation an abrupt, disturbing awareness that he knew he shouldn’t be experiencing. He trusted the instinctive alertness, though, and waited for the sound to give him a clear indication of where the danger was coming from. It only took a few minutes to locate the source, and Dahle’s eyes flew open just as the needle was being inserted into the I.V. tube that ran into his arm.

Andrew pulled the intravenous out as he forced his body into motion that it clearly objected to. The man hovering over his bed jumped back, his surprise giving Dahle his only chance to make a useful move.

Andrew threw himself off the bed and into the man next to it, taking them both down to the floor with a solid thud. He recovered quickly and landed a jarring blow to the man’s jaw. In the few seconds it took for the attacker to shake himself free of the pain, Dahle located the gun inside the other man’s coat. He pulled it free of the holster and pressed the barrel snugly between the man’s terrified eyes.

“Who sent you?” he demanded, the words little more than a rasp. He could feel the pulses of pain building with each breath, and he knew he’d probably torn apart whatever stitching the doctors had done earlier.

Dahle saw the refusal to answer before his assailant tried to offer him a response. He shifted his hold on the gun, then brought it down against the side of the man’s head, the action little more than a blur of smooth, practiced motion.

Andrew staggered to his feet and glanced around the room, suddenly expecting menace from every angle. He went to the locker and yanked his bloodstained clothes from the hangers. He dressed quickly, the gun within easy reach as he kept one eye on the door, then he slipped into position and waited. Instinct and experience told him there’d be more than one man sent for this kind of job. This one would have needed a lookout to warn him of possible interruptions by hospital staff.

He didn’t have to wait long for confirmation of his assessment. The door inched inward and Andrew banged the heavy metal panel back on the intruder, causing him to stumble. With a swiftness that stirred to life all the pain that he’d been fighting, Andrew reached for the wobbling figure and hauled him into the room. As the door swung shut on virtually silent hinges, Dahle slammed his captive against the wall and glared into the dazed features of the startled man.

He recovered a little more quickly than his partner and before Andrew could prevent it, he was struck soundly in the stomach. Gasping, Dahle almost passed out completely when the man’s fist came down hard on his injured shoulder, and he lost his grip on the gun he had been holding. He wheeled back and barely managed to dodge another punch aimed at his vulnerable shoulder. He spun on his heel, used the momentum, and landed a surprisingly solid kick to the second attacker’s midsection. He went down on his knees in front of Andrew and Dahle grabbed a handful of hair, then yanked back with all his strength. He heard the distinct crack of bones, then released the man to fall into a lifeless heap at his feet.

Glancing around him, Andrew knew the room would be crawling with people before too much longer. He needed to get out of the hospital, and quickly. Picking up the weapon he’d dropped minutes earlier, he ducked his head around the door. When he saw no one coming in the direction of his room, he slipped into the corridor and headed for the elevator.

He didn’t get to the end of the hall before he heard the sounds of commotion behind him. The bodies in his room must have been discovered a little more quickly than he was anticipating. He looked automatically toward the elevator and realized he wasn’t going to reach it, or the stairs, without being spotted. His entire body was alive with pain and he could feel the knots in his stomach twisting tighter as he fought down the agony-induced nausea. He stumbled into a wall as another wash of dizziness blurred his vision and threw off his balance. With an effort of sheer determination, Andrew reached for the door knob and almost fell into the room…

Wolf’s Strength – Caedmon Series by Ambrielle Kirk

April 5, 2014 2014, Upcoming Tour 1

SOR Wolf's Strength VBT BannerGenre: Paranormal

Tension grows between old rivals…

Cold-blooded murder sparks a feud that could lead to the deadliest civil war in Pack history. Alpha Devin Caedmon and his council are tempted to risk all that is precious to protect their bloodline. Tristan Arnou, the rival Pack’s leader, isn’t the only force trying to tear down the unity holding them together. All threats must be eliminated before their entire race is destroyed.

Forbidden love burns like a wildfire… There is one woman who Blake DeLuca loves more than anything else: Naomi Valentine. Despite the escalating battle and power struggles among their leaders, the erotic fire between these two lovers has yet to be extinguished. Naomi’s heart belongs to Blake, but her allegiance lies with Arnou. She’s left with two choices…assume her duty or accept Blake’s eternal bond?

In Wolf’s Strength secrets are exposed, and memories that were buried long ago have resurfaced. The game of deception is a deadly one. There can be no peace until the bloodshed ends.

SORM excerpt

“Why, Naomi? Why do we have to go on like this?”

She swallowed. “There are a million reasons why, and you’re aware of every single one of them.”

“Let’s run away. Somewhere far…and then we won’t have to worry about it.”

That had been the plan when they were young, but now they were adults with important responsibilities.

“Stop talking nonsense. You know that’s impossible. You have your duty and I have mine.” As she said this, she glimpsed a bit of remorse in his eyes, but there was something strange mixed with it. “You’re different.

Your eyes are…”

“Then the news hasn’t reached your Pack?” he inquired.

“There are traitors among Arnou. Tristan and his Council are selective about whom they share information with.” She peered across the other side of the building, sensing her brothers had not left the area. “I have to go.”

“Wait!” He tightened his grip on her hand and lifted a brow. “What do you mean traitors?”

She nodded. “Real traitors. Apparently, vital secrets were released about Arnou’s plan for our Pack. Tristan has interrogated many suspects. He threatens the life of any who cross him.”

Blake’s nose flared and his fingers tightened on her waist. “Get out before it’s too late.”

“It is too late,” she said firmly. “Back to the subject. What news are you referring to?”

“I don’t want you concerned.”

“Really? Or is it because you think word will reach Arnou after you’ve told me?”

Blake grinned but only for a split second. “Trust me, your leader knows what happened. Maybe he’s ashamed to admit his failure to his followers.”

“What failure?”

In that moment his eyes grew red and he stared at her under heavy dark eyelashes. She tried to pull away, but his firm hold on her prevented them for parting.

“What’s been missing for centuries that both Alphas want?”

Naomi narrowed her eyes. “They both want absolute power of the North American territories. But what do you mean? What has been missing?”

“It’s been so long, but have you forgotten already?” He lowered his voice as he spoke this time.

“As an Elite we’re handpicked to guard the Alpha, eliminate his threats, and clean up after his messes. I’m not paid, nor do I make it my priority to delve into anything else.”

“Ah…is that so? You and I both know you don’t follow Arnou’s rules to the T.” He slid his nose against the side of her neck, causing her to shiver against him. “I’m a threat to your leader and the pledge you made to him, am I not?”

Naomi bit her bottom lip as Blake’s canines replaced his nose against her throat. “Just tell me what the fuck you’re talking about. What is missing?”

His manhood hardened against her belly. “What should I do with that naughty mouth of yours, huh?” He pressed his hot tongue against her pulsing jugular.

Her knees buckled as he released the pheromones from his tongue and awakened her wolf. It was his way of marking her internally, and her hungry pores absorbed all of it.

“Tell me,” she urged.

“I—”

A long howl from the distance startled them both. It was Nathan warning her she needed to hurry.

“Come with me—permanently,” Blake demanded without releasing her. “And you’ll know everything.”

“No.” She pulled out of his embrace. “I have to go before someone discovers us. Why are you still here?

You’ll get caught too.”

“I know the sheriff downstairs. We’ll handle the cover up.”

“Must be nice to have ranking in the human world.”

His lips spread into a smile. “The sheriff isn’t humankind.”

“Figures.” Caedmon royalty had connections like that inside as well as outside the shifter world. It almost made her think they had more of a chance than her Arnou leader.

Blake frowned. “How do you expect me to protect you from so far away?”

“You left me years ago.” She pointed at his chest. “You should have thought about that before you made that decision.”

“Don’t…” He tried to reach her, but she continued to back away. “You still want to use that against me? We agreed to a plan years ago. You didn’t follow through.”

She swallowed. He was right. At the last minute she’d all but betrayed him. “I would go with you, but just like it was years ago, there is more than my life at stake.”

SOR Secrets Lies and Trash VBT Banner

Genre: Mystery

Was it just another day on the job for garbage man/single dad, Russell Waverly? Not if ordinary includes finding a severed head in the morning trash pickup. Four bodies in 48-hours send the working-class community of Spotswood, New Jersey reeling and it’s up to Russell and his childhood buddy, Detective Jake Turner to set things right.

SORM excerpt
I couldn’t make out the face, but I certainly recognized the voice. It was Jake Turner, my best friend since kindergarten. We had been inseparable since the day our tussle over a train engine had ended in a draw. The friendship stayed intact all the way through elementary school and into high school. Jake and I were all set to room together in college when the words

“I’m pregnant” forever altered my future. I have never regretted the decision to marry my childhood sweetheart, Caroline, and I couldn’t imagine my life without Ryan, but here we were.

Jake was a rising star with the Spotswood Police Department and I picked up his trash.

The Texas Cowboy by Katheryn Lane

March 2, 2014 Uncategorized 0

SOR The Texas Cowboy VBT BannerFrom the #1 Amazon bestselling author, Katheryn Lane, comes an unforgettable romance set in the heart of Texas.

Everything’s bigger in Texas, including the problems.

When Vicky flies into Texas, she immediately falls for the charms of local cowboy, Jack Cassidy. However, her wealthy Dallas cousin, Laura, has other ideas and will do everything she can to steer Vicky away from Jack and into the arms of a rich oilman.

Jack is resigned to living the life of a lonely cowboy whose only female company is his horses—that is, until he meets Vicky. However, Vicky isn’t the only person with a claim on his heart. Jack wasn’t always alone and his ex is about to make a dramatic comeback.

Every cowboy has a past and this cowboy’s past is about to destroy his future.

SORM excerpt

“You can’t take his picture, Victoria!” Laura whispered.

“Please, call me Vicky,” Laura’s cousin replied. She held up her phone and clicked. There on the screen was a picture of the man opposite them, captured forever for Vicky to look at as much as she pleased, whether Laura liked it or not.

“I don’t know how people behave where you come from in England, Victoria, but here in Dallas, we don’t go around taking pictures of strangers, especially cowboys.” Laura lifted up her iced tea with her perfectly manicured fingers and took a small sip.

“But look at him. It’s such a great image.” Vicky pointed directly at the man standing across the street from the cafe where they had stopped for a drink. He was wearing faded jeans, boots, and a large cowboy hat, which was tilted slightly over his left eye. In his arm he was holding an orange Hermes box tied up with a brown ribbon. “It just seems to sum up Dallas, doesn’t it? A tall, sexy cowboy, holding an expensive, designer box.”

“Victoria, I don’t see what’s so interesting about him. He’s probably just some ranch hand on an errand. I would never have suggested sitting outside, if I thought you were going to take photographs of strange men.” Laura signaled to one of the waiters for the bill.

“I’m sorry, but my friends back home will just love this picture. I had to take it.” Vicky looked up from the image on her phone to the flesh-and-blood version that was waiting on the other side of the road. The cowboy caught her eye and winked at her. Vicky looked at her cousin. She was looking for change in her purse. Vicky looked across the road and winked back. She could feel her cheeks turning scarlet. She wasn’t sure whether it was because she was embarrassed about defying her cousin, or because she had just made a pass at a complete stranger. She would never have done something like that back home in England, so what made her do it here in Dallas?

“I don’t believe it,” Laura said. “It looks like he’s coming over. Drink up. We’re leaving.” Laura stood to go, but it was too late. The cowboy had already crossed the road and was striding towards them.

“Howdy, ma’am,” he said with a long, slow drawl that sounded like molasses pouring from a spoon. He held out his hand to Vicky and she took it firmly in her own. She glanced over at Laura, but Laura kept both her hands tightly clasped around her Prada purse.

“Please excuse us. We were just leaving,” Laura said, looking around for the waiter.

“Well, that’s a real pity. I was going to offer to buy you ladies a drink.” The cowboy smiled at both of them, showing off a set of perfect teeth that shone white against his tanned skin.

“No, thank you,” Laura replied, pulling a twenty dollar bill out of her purse and securing it under the sugar bowl on the cafe table.

“Another time maybe. My name’s Jack, Jack Cassidy. Give me a call next time you’re free.” He pulled out a card from his shirt pocket and handed it to them. Laura shrank back as if he were trying to give her a rattlesnake.

“Thank you, Jack.” Vicky took the card and looked at it. His name, Jack Cassidy, was printed across the middle and there was a phone number in the bottom left-hand corner. It didn’t give much away. “I’m Vicky Baker and this is my cousin, Laura Hanson.”

“We really must be going, Victoria,” Laura said through pursed lips.

“You ain’t from around here, are you, Vicky?” Jack replied, ignoring Laura’s glares.

“No, I’m from Gloucester, in England. I’m just here in Texas for a few weeks visiting my cousin.”

“I’ve never been to England, but they say it’s real pretty. Welcome to Texas, Vicky. Give me a call sometime and I’ll show you the sights. I might even be able to show you a few things that your cousin doesn’t know about.” He gave her another broad wink and tipped his hat.

I’m a wife, teacher, author and mother of two boisterous boys, so most of my days are taken up with finding lost school shoes, getting stuck in traffic and wondering why I always join the queue that doesn’t move in the supermarket. However, I try to forget these daily problems (and the fact that I burnt the toast again this morning) by losing myself in a good book and writing novels that give readers a break from everyday life.
Open one of my books and escape on a romantic adventure, because it’s easier to buy a book than it is to book an air ticket.

Have a break, read a book!

Intimate Strangers by Tara Mills

SOR Intimate Strangers VBT Banner

Can she ever forgive herself? Will she ever forget him? When newly engaged couple, Mac and Kate take a celebratory fishing trip off the island of Pelican Cay, they never dream their romantic bliss is in jeopardy.

What happens will test Kate in ways she never saw coming, make her question what she understands about her own heart, and lead her into the arms of another man.

SORM excerpt
There was a spring in Kate and Mac’s steps when they hustled down the dock, clasped hands swinging between them on this bright and early morning. In truth, it could have been simply the give of the walkway under their feet, but she chose to attribute it to their blissful mood. Her skin still tingled from making love with him back at the hotel. Both wore smiles that wouldn’t quit.

Kate turned her wrist, and his, to admire her beautiful new ring. The breathtaking diamond caught the light and shimmered back at her, utterly captivating her all over again.

Mac shot her a quick glance and chuckled as he gently tugged her along. “Come on. You’ll have all kinds of time to stare at that rock once we’re on the boat.”

“I can’t help it.” She laughed, still thrown by his unexpected proposal. “I love it!”

He turned her hand so he could admire the ring himself then winked at her. “It looks good on you.” Mac craned his neck and spotted their chartered boat. “I see ‘em.” He shared a nod with a man watching them from a fly bridge just ahead.

The man chuckled as he made his way down a chrome ladder to the deck to meet them. “You beat my other crewman.” Turning, he reached for Kate’s hand, hauling her into the boat as Mac boosted her by the hips from behind. Her fiancé leaped gracefully onto the boat after her, and they both faced the captain.

“Welcome aboard the Sea Sprite. I’m Brady Finn.” Still holding her hand, he gave it a hearty pump.

He didn’t look any older than they were, but his sharp features were weathered from the wind and sun. The lines framing his smile gave his tan even more warmth. Her eyes strayed to his sandy hair. Generally, she preferred men who were more clean-cut, like Mac. But the way Brady’s shaggy hair fluttered and feathered in the breeze, with the sun glinting off his natural bleached highlights, was undeniably appealing. As if saving the best for last, only now did she meet his unusual blue-green eyes. Set off by fine lines radiating out from the corner of each, they were beautiful, so striking she was thrown for moment.

No question—most women would find Brady Finn attractive. Trying very hard not to think about it, she blushed at her delayed response to his introduction. “Kate.”

As always, Mac saved the day. Offering his hand to their skipper next, he grinned. “And I’m Mac Schafer.” He glanced around, taking it all in. “Wow, this is some boat.”

“Thank you.” The captain was noticeably pleased at the compliment. “Ah … here’s Rome. He’s going to help you haul in your monster fish today.”

“Rome?” Kate raised her eyebrows as she shook the Latino’s hand.

His lips tightened. “I prefer it to Romeo.”

Brady gave him a good-natured cuff on the arm and told the passengers, “He’s not as big a fan of Shakespeare as his mom.”

Chuckling, Mac clasped hands with him and brought back the man’s easy smile. “Good to meet you, Rome.”

A sigh of contentment escaped Kate as she gazed at her fiancé. Mac had a way with people, a gift for diffusing tense situations. It’s what attracted her to him in the first place.

Stepping back, she was startled to catch the captain watching her, studying her. She had an uneasy suspicion he was very aware of how carefully she’d examined him moments ago. Looking evasively away, she reached for Mac. Pressed against his side while he chatted, Kate rubbed her hand up and down his spine, in dire need of a little of his calming mojo herself all of a sudden.

Oblivious to her tension, Mac smiled at Brady. “You said there’s a bathroom on board?”

The captain pointed to his left. “Through the salon and down the stairs.”

Mac gave Kate’s waist an affectionate squeeze. “See. Told you. You’ll be fine.”

“You can’t miss it.” Brady’s gaze landed on her again. To her relief, he didn’t linger this time. “We’ll head out as soon as Manuel gets here. Excuse me. I’ll see what’s keeping him.”

Rome waved the couple into the cockpit. “How about a quick tour?”
